MAISON SGF - YOUR HOME WHILE IN FRANCE
Your base of operations and home while you are here is Maison SGF, located on a quiet side street in St. Thibery. SGF stands for Sloane’s Grand Father, the Grandfather of the family that owns the house. Follow along while we look at the features of the house.
The house has three floors and you enter at the street level through this door. The window next to the door looks out from the sitting room and also opens for fresh air when desirable. The window also has shutters and generally they are closed at night or when not home for privacy reasons.
Entering the house, in the front is the sitting room with a TV, fireplace and comfortable seating for a relaxing conversational area. The sitting room was recently redone with new wallpaper (the entire interior has been freshly painted and refinished).

Directly behind the
sitting room is the kitchen with stove, refrigerator, sink, washing machine and
microwave. The shelves hold dishes, glasses, cups, bowls and silverware.
There is a coffee maker and toaster on the counter. Additional supplies
are kept in an old hutch in the hallway behind the kitchen, easily
accessible.
Our kitchen was completely remodeled in January-February of
2005. Here are new pictures of the finished kitchen.

The kitchen also contains a dining table which can be expanded to sit as many as six comfortably - eight in a pinch. From the kitchen you can take the stairs to the second floor where the main bathroom (with shower) and two bedrooms are found.

Another major change this year is the newly remodeled - and enlarged - bathroom. With a much larger shower area along with new fixtures throughout, the main bath is now complete. Here are a few pictures of the finished bath.

The front bedroom is on the left, coming off the stairs and has French doors (of course) that open above the street and the front of the house. This bedroom also has an armoire for clothes, a writing desk and a computer desk (with computer).

The back bedroom has a closet, dresser and twin beds. There is a landing between the two bedrooms which gives you access to the stairs (up and down) and the main bath.
On the landing you will find the steps (with an interesting door) that leads to the Master Bedroom on the third floor and to the terrace. In the picture below you can see, on the left the steps starting up and, on the right the top of the stairs which has a child’s gate on it in case you have little ones.

The Master Bedroom on the third floor includes an area to relax in a very comfortable chair, full size bed, and a writing table (with Ham Radio gear if you are licensed). As seen in the pictures below, there is also a large, low dresser, stereo and bookcase.

Also on the third floor is a complete Amateur Radio operating desk, available for licensed amateurs. The ceiling slopes and has a sky-light directly over the bed.

From the bedroom on the third floor you can walk out on to the terrace which overlooks the street. The terrace is a great place for sun bathing, relaxing or having a meal. During the evening the view of the sky is terrific. The clarity of the air and the lack of an abundance of ambient light make the view outstanding.
Below on the left is a view of the terrace from the door from the bedroom. On the right is another view of the terrace with table and chairs, ready for dinner.

On the left below is a night view of the terrace and on the right is a view towards the door to the bedroom.  The tile roof, while looking aged, is new in 2000 and represents the typical roofs for this area of the Mediterranean.

Below is a view down the street to the East and across the street from the terrace, looking down at a neighbors terrace. The neighbors in the area are very friendly and it is customary to greet others when walking on the streets or entering a store.
Whatever your pleasure in relaxation, you will find it in the South of France.
